Professor Elżbieta Oleksy – R.I.P.

It is with sadness that we bid farewell to Professor Elżbieta Oleksy, an eminent American studies scholar, literary scholar, and one of the most important figures in Polish feminist studies, who passed away on April 17th.
Professor Oleksy was a long-time researcher at the University of Lodz, co-founder of the Faculty of International and Political Studies, and the founding director of the Women’s Issues Research Center. A scholar of immense knowledge, a mentor to generations of undergraduate and graduate students, a visionary of inexhaustible energy and great charisma, she has passed away. Her publications in the fields of gender studies and American studies guided research in these areas, significantly shaping Polish humanities thought. Professor Elżbieta Oleksy was one of the founding members of the Polish Association for American Studies, and from 1993 to 1996 she served as vice-president of the association.
We extend our condolences to Dr. Wiesław Oleksy, member and former treasurer of the PAAS.
